Introduction: What This Episode Is About
Have you ever told yourself, “I’m just not good with money”? If you’re seeking financial advice for Latinas in their 20s, this episode is especially for you.
As a wealth coach and first-gen Latina, I hear this belief all the time—especially from women in their 20s stepping into their careers, building businesses, and trying to do everything “right.”
But let me tell you something: you are doing better than you think.
This week, I’m sharing 3 powerful financial truths I wish someone had told me in my 20s. These aren’t your typical “save your coffee money” tips—they’re deeper beliefs that have shaped how we, as Latinas, navigate money, careers, and generational expectations. Understanding financial advice for Latinas in their 20s can greatly impact how you manage these challenges.
Whether you’re just graduating college, climbing the corporate ladder, or launching your own business, this episode is your reminder that your story with money is just getting started—and you have everything it takes to build wealth on your own terms.
Let’s dive into the truths I wish I knew, so you can step into your financial power with clarity and confidence.
Truth #1: Education Is Not the Key to Wealth
We’ve all been told that education is the way to “make it” in life. For many first-gen Latinas, going to college was the ultimate goal—proof that we were doing things right. And while education can absolutely open doors, it’s not what builds wealth.
Education gives you access, yes. It might get you in the room. But it won’t guarantee a seat at the table, and it certainly doesn’t guarantee financial security. Why? Most traditional education systems don’t teach us how to manage money, build wealth, invest, or plan for our future. This is why financial advice for Latinas in their 20s becomes crucial.
I didn’t learn about financial education until my 30s—and I wish someone had told me that it was just as important (if not more) than any degree I could earn. The truth is:
“Your worth doesn’t come from your certifications—it comes from your confidence and financial literacy.”
So if you’re waiting to “feel ready” before you learn about investing, budgeting, or money mindset, don’t. Start where you are. You don’t need a finance degree to become the first millionaire in your family.
Truth #2: Loyalty Doesn’t Build Wealth
Let me be real: loyalty to a job is not a wealth-building strategy. Many of us were raised to believe that if we stay at a job, work hard, and don’t cause problems, we’ll be rewarded. But the truth? Companies aren’t loyal back.
During economic downturns, it’s often women of color—especially Latinas—who are the first to be let go. So while that 9–5 may feel “safe,” it’s not always sustainable long-term.
“The best time to look for new opportunities is when you’re happy—not when you’re desperate to leave.”
Being loyal to a job might bring stability, but being loyal to your dreams is what creates wealth. That means applying for the raise even when you’re comfortable. Pitching the new business idea. Saying yes to mentorship. Or exploring entrepreneurship.
Build wealth by betting on yourself—not by staying stuck out of fear. As you seek financial advice tailored for Latinas in their 20s, remember that pursuing personal goals can pave the way.
Truth #3: No One Is Coming to Save You
This one hits hard—but it’s real. There’s no magic formula, no politician, no boss or family member coming to hand you the golden ticket to financial freedom.
And as much as we want someone to validate our decisions, give us permission, or pave the way—we are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
You don’t need someone else to give you the “go-ahead” to negotiate your salary, launch your business, or start investing. What you need is clarity and action. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment—it’s now. In seeking financial advice for Latinas in their 20s, you’ll find empowerment in taking these steps yourself.
“Thinking about your money is already a sign that you’re good with it.”
So take that as your cue. You are capable. You are worthy. And you are already on your way.
